The villas have loads of character and everything in the villas and around them has been carefully selected to be old and in keeping with the period which all adds to the experience. The large old Malaysian house used as the reception area is particularly authentic and wonderful. The villas are quite out of the way but don't worry it is ridiculously quick and easy to get a taxi with the grab app and so cheap. To Pantai Cenang beach or the airport about £ Panorama cable car about £ and Tanjung Rhu beach also where mangrove tours are £ All of the staff were friendly and made us feel at home in this chilled out place. We would certainly recommend spending a few nights at Kunang Kunang located out in the villages next to a large lake rather than in a modern hotel in the busy Cenang beach area. If you are travelling around experiencing different places and hotels this is definitely one to add to your itinerary. Enjoy it we certainly did!…Date of stay March 2023Trip type Travelled as a coupleRoom Tip Make sure you download the grab app and then you don't need to worry about the location you can...See more room tipsThis review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is just a magical place, with beautiful and very old Malaysian wooden villas. Our kids of 6 & 8 loved the floating pool, the breakfast us grown ups as well, and we all loved the friendly staff and the absolutely lovely buildings & surroundings. It is close to the airport, but it does not disturb as it doesn’t land that many planes per day. You do need a car to live here or order in food through Grab when the restaurant is closed but it is totally worth it. Yes, you can hear the planes, both jet and prop, but they don't come in and out too often not after 11pm or before 7am by recollection. We stayed in Temonyong 13, and that row of 4 villas does have a small road running behind it, and there were a couple of noisy motorbikes late at night. You can also hear prayers from a nearby mosque early in the morning. And, if you have noisy neighbours it's 'family friendly', there's not a lot to stop that noise travelling either. Location-wise, we had a number of cancelled Grabs as it is positioned along narrow roads, so book with time to spare! The place itself is lovely though!Date of stay December 2022Trip type Travelled as a coupleRoom Tip It's between 10 and 15 mins car ride to the more room tipsThis review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The place was clean and the staff really attentive. It is set in a beautiful natural environment so expect wildlife noise. It is fairly close to a couple of mosques and the airport but I can honestly say the noise from both did not bother us I am a very light sleeper. The pool area was lovely and the food was some of the best we had on the island. Although it is slightly out of the resort it is easy to get about using the grab app or scooter. Kunang kunang is the best place we stayed in Malaysia. The room was spacious and decorated traditionally. The air con and fans kept the room cool but we were also able to adjust as needed. It was very quiet, the only ‘issue’ we had was when it rained heavily at night as it was noisy on the tin roof. If you are a light sleeper then I would recommend ear plugs. The outdoor bathroom was beautiful with a huge walk in shower and a big wooden bath tub. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, they went above and beyond to help make our stay special. We stayed for 11 nights and found the breakfast choice to be great, lots of Malaysian food as well as an egg station, waffles, cereal, fruit, cakes etc. I’m vegetarian and didn’t struggle to eat of a morning. The pool was stunning and surrounded by wildlife, we enjoyed watching the birds, dragonflies and monitor lizards. Before visiting we saw a few reviews about noise from the airport. We didn’t find it to be noisy and thought it was the same noise level as when we previously stayed in another hotel in Pantai of stay August 2022Trip type Travelled as a coupleRoom Tip It is easier to use Grab for taxis, it only costs 8/9 RM to get to Cenang mallSee more room tipsThis review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wonderful character from yester year with the old timber and shutters. Semi outdoor bathroom was great with timber bath, not sure you would want to have a bath when it's 30 degrees. Mosquito netting around the bed was a great touch and needed. Real good malay breakfast and friendly staff who did their best to make your stay something to remember. Had a massage which was also very good and in pleasant surroundings with wonderful staff. Pool is large and needed in the hot weather it is also very different to any other pool I've been in as it floats within a large Lilly pond. The place offers an authentic, regal Malay Kampung experience. We stayed at Villa Manong, a gorgeous and well preseved villa with a massive semi outdoor rainshower and bathtub. The service at Kunang-Kunang was top notch. From the ever attentive and responsive reception by the manager, authentic and delicious Malay Breakfast and perfect housekeeping services. The decor of the entire hotel was tasteful and in Dutch we call it gezellig We stayed for 8 days and 7 nights and wished we had stayed longer. We enjoyed swimming in the floating pool surrounded by lotus plants. Our stay was made possible by the dedication of Mr Rais, who helped us from booking a villa to answering any queries during our stay. He is so kind and to us he was the star personnel of this lovely place. Firstly, the service is arrival, the service was fantastic, we arrived early and as our room was ready we were allowed to check in. They provided a takeaway breakfast on departure due to an early flight. Everything we asked was provided in a timely manner. We enjoyed the relaxed, authentic Kampung feel - mixing with both the staff and guests around the grounds of the hotel. Our kids enjoyed having the run of the hotel and playing and making many new friends. The villas are stunning and have been beautifully restored and maintained. They are over 100 years old and have been relocated from peninsula Malaysia. The bathroom with the wooden bath and eclectic tiles were a winner for me. The pool is a focal point of the resort and is beautiful and serene. It was a strange feeling floating in the middle of the lake.
